KILL THE JEWS!

Throughout Europe and in many other nations the Jewish people are under attack. Synagogues are burned down or vandalized, Jewish cemeteries are defaced and in city after city violent protests are erupting against Israel as a nation and the Jews. Jews in Berlin, the capital of Germany, are being warned by the police not to dress like Jews or wear anything that may identify them as Jews. In Romania mobs of people have taken to the streets chanting "death to the Jews." Similar gatherings have sprung up in major cities world-wide.
On another front Israel is fighting against the extreme bias against her by journalists from around the globe. On yet other fronts governments are cutting off ties with Israel even after she has withdrawn from the West Bank such as is the case with South Africa today. While condemning the violence and hatred towards Jews in their own countries European leaders have continued to press Israel to give up her land to the Palestinians in order to bring a swift solution to the Middle East conflict. The Europeans continue to condemn Israel for using violence to quell the Palestinian terror infrastructure, refusing to recognize the significant drop in suicide attacks by the Palestinians that have resulted.
In America recent polls show that the idea of a Palestinian state carved from Israel is gaining favor. And judging from the lack of a gag on Colin Powell, President Bush must be viewing the formation of such a state as the next possible move by his administration in bringing peace to the Middle East. Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres likewise while meeting with the Europeans has affirmed the European call for the swift establishment of a Palestinian state.
At the top of the heap sits the collective voice of the peoples, tribes and nations of the world, the UN. Passing several resolutions in a row the UN Security Council has repeatedly come down on Israel in favor of the Palestinians.
What is Israel to do? People are calling for the death of her people, the world's governments are condemning her for protecting herself and the world, including her only friend the U.S., want her to abandon her covenant with God and give the Palestinians a portion of her inheritance. Israel has two choices: Cave in to the pressure and appease her ever increasing list of enemies or she can turn to God, calling upon his name and then in faith face the world knowing that if God is for her no one can stand against her.
The scenario reminds me of a popular t-shirt many of you have seen. In the scene on the shirt a heron has just caught a frog and is holding him by the head in its beak. But the frog is defying what we would expect to happen, he has his front feet wrapped around the neck of the bird to choke it and emblazoned under this is written 'NEVER GIVE UP!' Israel can defy what may seem like insurmountable odds by taking refuge in the LORD. God promises to protect her if she turns from her wickedness and depends on Him to protect and provide for her. By doing so she will reap the blessings stated by God in Deuteronomy 28.
Sadly, the Bible shows that Israel will some day choose the first option and rebel against the covenant. The curses that God promises for such actions are also listed in Deuteronomy 28. There you will find a detailed view of Israel's punishment or desolation, also known as the tribulation.
There is a bright spot in this dark cloud. There are and will be Jews in the world who will turn to the LORD and obey him. They will resist those who rebel against the covenant. They will enjoy their promised inheritance in the LORD's kingdom when Jesus comes back to claim His rightful throne!
