IS ARAFAT A BLESSING TO ISRAEL?

By Randy Loudenslager

As long as Israel's people turn to God, keep His covenant and her leaders continue to fight on God will go before Israel and fight for her. As Joshua led the Israelites over the Jordan and they approached Jericho they were met by a man with a drawn sword. Joshua asked the man if he was for Israel or for her enemies. "Neither," was the man's reply, for he had come as commander of the LORD's armies. Joshua was awestruck and prostrated himself on the ground before whom he now recognized to be the Angel of the LORD.

Israel must take exactly the same steps as Joshua. She must advance against the enemies that God has placed into her hands. She must clearly evaluate who is with her and who is not. She must prostrate herself before God alone, with the complete understanding that God will either fight for Israel or will fight against Israel depending on whether Israel humbles herself before Him, like Joshua, or not.

Yassar Arafat has no intentions on making peace with Israel. As long as he is in control of the Palestinian Authority he will attempt to hurt Israel. For Arafat it is all or nothing, he wants all of Israel. Yassar Arafat has caused Israel to fight and by God's hand she is overcoming her enemy. But, replace Arafat with a honey lipped successor and Israel will belly up and cry uncle. In Israel's desperation for peace she has even believed the notorious liar Arafat. He promised peace constantly as he held a knife to her throat. His successor will be more convincing.

As long as Israel is forced to fight she will prevail, but here is her downfall. God promised her, because of her rebelliousness, no rest wherever she may be. He would pursue her over the earth and the sword would be her lot, history has proved this out. When, through sheer exhaustion, Israel lays down the sword her desolation will soon follow. Arafat is Israel's blessing in that he is temporarily in the way of Israel giving away her covenant lands. This can be frustrating for believers who love Israel and yet hope for a speedy return of our king, but Jesus will not come until the punishment of Israel for her sins is completed. But when He comes Israel will fight on that day also and her remnant will celebrate with us in victory over the world!
