IS AMERICA BETRAYING ISRAEL?

Before a November 19, 2001 speech by Colin Powell, America would never have dreamed of or even tolerated the notion of a Palestinian state carved out of Israel's territories. Since November 19 a landslide towards just such an event is occurring. Even the UN Security Council has not gone as far in the past as to mention the possibility of a Palestinian state. Now events have entered a new phase and have seemingly reached the point of no return.
Acting on an initiative introduced by the United States the UN Security Council passed a decision by a count of 14 votes and 1 abstention that calls for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a state of Palestine. This resolution came on the heals of a scathing verbal attack upon Israel by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan as he addressed the Security Council. In his address he strongly condemned Israel's military incursions into Ramallah to root out terrorists as an 'illegal occupation.' This is the first time Annan has used the term illegal in reference to Israeli security measures.
Meanwhile the anticipated arrival of retired general Anthony Zinni to Israel from America to broker peace talks has prompted Washington to ask Sharon and Arafat to initiate a ceasefire immediately before Zinni's arrival.
It would appear that America has taken to brow beating Sharon into compliance with American interests. Russia has rigorously pointed out America's arrogance in the war on terror and her use of it to advance her global hegemony. Israel's acts of self-defense are embarrassing her only real ally, America. America is preparing to wage war on Iraq and in order to do so she must build diplomatic support with the other Arab nations of the region, something Vice President Cheney is attempting to do as he travels the Middle East. If America is seen as too pro-Israel then the Arabs will not support an attack on Iraq, so Israel, at the worst possible moment, is offered up as a political sacrifice.
America is betraying the people in Israel who are waiting for their Messiah to come. These people can see what is in store for Israel when the Palestinians establish their state. They know that this will defile God's covenant with Israel. They know, based on Arafat's statements, he will make deals with the Jews until he is strong enough to overpower them and all of Israel will be Palestinian. Strong support from America makes a strong Israel, remove that support and Israel will become the scorn of the earth. America has surprised everyone with her swift call for a Palestinian state and has sent a message to the world that Israel is no longer untouchable.
