THE CAMEL'S BACK IS BREAKING

By Randy Loudenslager

As of the time of this writing Israel has suffered 21 dead in four separate attacks by Palestinians within 24 hours. These attacks come after a successful military incursion into two separate Palestinian refugee camps by Israeli Defense Forces where 2 IDF soldiers and 25 Palestinian militants were killed in heavy fighting. The Israeli population is groaning under the attacks and the Palestinians remain defiant.

The severity of the Palestinian attacks is raising the voices of the rightists for a military overthrow of Arafat and the PA. Also raised are the voices of the left as they call for a diplomatic solution that they hope will be heard by a population that overwhelmingly favored Israel's latest refugee camp incursions. This call for compromising Israel's covenant with God for peace with the Arabs is causing great strain on the Sharon government. Sharon is under intense pressure from the far right parties of his coalition government to attack Arafat and occupy Palestinian areas to destroy the terrorist resistance once and for all.

Days of crisis like these have replayed themselves throughout the one year tenure of Ariel Sharon. Most have expected each time that something drastic will happen as a result of government action to stop the escalation of the 17 month Intifada uprising. But nothing has happened and through all of this Sharon has proved himself, by his actions, as a proponent of a war of attrition. The rightists understand that a war of attrition will be lost by Israel and are calling for decisive action via the military, but it appears that Sharon may not be able to act decisively due to the suffocation of his actions by representatives of the left within his security cabinet.

The next several days will tell of Sharon's future as Prime Minister. The people are quickly losing confidence in his ability to decisively end the Intifada. The right wing parties of his coalition may carry out their threat to abandon their support of Sharon and support another candidate who will act swiftly in the interests of Israel.

Israel is reaching the breaking point. She is a land of resilient people, but she cannot endure this atmosphere of uncertainty and fear much longer. She is desperate and desperate people require action. They should be calling on the LORD and then watching in faith as He conquers her enemies in battle, but they are growing blinder by the day and those who can still see are increasingly being ignored or disregarded as extremists. Whatever comes next do not be distracted, Israel will achieve her peace. Look for this peace, it is the first major sign on the road to the coming of the kingdom of the LORD Jesus Christ and it marks the beginning of the birth pains spoken of by the LORD in regards to the last days.
