Will Israel Be Nuked
Some Day?
By Randy Loudenslager
Will Israel be nuked some day? No and probably yes. This question is not a hard question to answer from Bible prophesy. To look at this question through the eyes of the common man or woman, we would understand a nuclear attack to be a total devastation of not only the intentioned target, but also for many miles from ground zero, engulfing entire metropolitan regions. By this description Israel would not survive even one strike by a medium size warhead. Israel is approximately 275 miles long by about 70 miles wide (at her widest point). At her center lives the core of her population, she would not survive. The Bible prophesies that although Israel is nearly destroyed during the tribulation (desolation) period, it's destruction as a nation will come via marauding armies, not nuclear weapons. But if we are to have complete understanding then we must also consider other kinds of nuclear weapons. For the sake of argument, let's dismiss neutron bombs (a nuclear device that kills using radiation, but leaves the physical target relatively unscathed). Most of Israel's enemies of the last days, mentioned in the Bible, with the exception of Russia, do not have nuclear weapons. Those that have them possess only rudimentary forms of the weapon and delivery capabilities. They are desperate to have any capability, neutron weapons are not even considered.
Let me tell you why from a Bible perspective Israel's enemies won't nuke her. They covet her land. They hate Israel the people, but love Israel the land. What needs to be considered here is how will the nations of the last days overcome the technologically superior armies of America and Israel and how does the inevitable use of nukes fit together. The answer is a simplistic one; tactical battlefield nukes (TBN). A TBN is a baby version of it's big brother the ICBM. The TBN is designed to decimate large concentrations of troops and weapons, not cities and nations. These weapons are highly mobile, and because of their diminutive size can be delivered by short-range missile, artillery, aircraft, as a land mine or even by hand.
The United States is holding high-level talks with Israel about missile and nuclear weapon proliferation. The focus of the talks is on the attempts by Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan and Libya to acquire nuclear weapons technology and delivery capabilities. Although, seen by many as a political bluff, Saddam Hussein, in his preparations for attacks by the U.S., has met with his Atomic Energy Minister several times. No one can say for certain that Iraq doesn't have nuclear weapons. Iran has had some of her more extreme elements calling for the nuclear destruction of Israel and has had help in advancing her long range missile capabilities from Russia and North Korea. Syria, apparently isn't content to be without such weapons and is also working on her own programs.
We need to stop thinking doomsday as something we humans will unleash upon the earth. Doomsday holds no doom at all for the Christian who stands firm to the end. The doom is meant for all who do not believe or submit to the Lordship of King Jesus, it is Jesus who will unleash doomsday upon man and the earth. The Arab nations are afraid of tangling directly with Israel after their sound thrashings at the hands of Israel's armies. Their fear hasn't changed their hatred of Israel or the desire for her demise. On both counts they are steadfast in their commitment to Islam and it's teachings about the death of Israel. They will not be as interested in ICBMs as in accurate TBN strikes against Israeli Defense Forces and possibly American army units. This is a goal that is closer to their grasp financially and technologically. For Iraq and possibly Iran this may already have been achieved. In past issues of the Daily WATCH we have mentioned at length Iraq's super cannons, just the sort of weapon that could deliver small packages with big bangs. The super cannon or other tactical battlefield nuclear devices could achieve the last days prophecy found in Daniel 11:21-22, He [antichrist] will invade the kingdom when its people feel secure, and he will seize it through intrigue. Then an overwhelming army will be swept away before him; both it and a prince of the covenant will be destroyed.
