Terror Coalition Fragmenting?
The United States is riding a wave of military success in Afghanistan and wants to take the anti-terror war against it's next target, Iraq. In their fear, the nations of the world, even enemies of the U.S., rallied behind America when the World Trade Towers were attacked. But, Russia, like a carefully choreographed dance, has gone from condolences and friendship to increasing rhetoric and now is aligning itself into a position of opposition against Washington foreign policy. In the recent past most would have dismissed this as typical fare from Russia. Changes in Russian circumstances and agile political shrewdness on the part of President Putin have thrust Russia onto center stage. Russia has never willingly shared center stage with anyone, and the U.S. is no exception.
Russia's bold advances in world power and politics have gone virtually unanswered by Washington. President Bush, also a shrewd man, has demonstrated near genius in coalition building. Russia however, is not slow to catch on to the ways of the West and has taken to not only imitating Washington but has begun to employ her choicest weapon, divide and conquer! Russia has directly called into question America's entire anti-terror agenda and with devastating results. NATO, America's backbone to ANY coalition building, is throwing herself at Russia like some adulterous woman. Mr. Putin, a man of intrigue, is about the task of drawing NATO away from America. With craftiness that would demand respect if not for it's wicked agenda, Russia has stated that Europe will be more secure in Russia's care than America's. Russia is busily convincing the world of her own virtues by questioning America's, even going so far as to suggest that America, by meddling in the affairs of other states, is seeking to increase her control over those nations. Moscow's remedy is to call for the United States to submit itself to U.N. authority and any further use of force must be "authorized by the U.N. Security Council," accompanied by proof "of the existence of terrorist networks" in the target countries. Russia, having successfully convinced NATO to allow her involvement in political decisions, understands that in order to control the U.S. they need to bring America under the rule of international law. In doing so they can build political coalitions against the U.S. As evidence of the Russian influence on NATO, Lord Robertson, Secretary General of NATO, has stated that more evidence of Iraq's involvement in the 9-11 attacks is needed before any attacks are to be carried out, a position identical to Russia's. What is of concern is that NATO is strictly a military alliance and self admittedly has no rightful involvement in Iraq in any event, and yet Lord Robertson's comments are clearly a political statement. America, Israel's only friend is clearly being isolated by Israel's ancient, present and future enemies.
